Descanso y mentiras
Why touch matters
I remember that on one of my first trips back home, I went to see a dentist for a routine check. When the friendly Argentinean dentist opened his office door, I stretched out my hand in British fashion. But instead of shaking my hand, he grabbed it, pulled me in and kissed me on the cheek. I was in complete shock for a few seconds. Then, I thought: “Relax, you’re home. This isn’t sexual harassment!”
Does God give signs?
Have you ever wished you were an Israelite who could get Yes and No answers like that straight from God? Decision-making would be less confusing, since you would not have to be afraid of choosing the wrong thing.
Beholding beauty
We’ve all experienced it: a bright starlit sky, a particularly attractive face or a melody so exquisite that it transfixes us. Its power seems to bypass our brains and strike right at the heart, rendering us speechless. But we’ve also experienced the insidious side of beauty; that tendency within that pushes us to consume, compete and compare ourselves. It can easily become a destructive obsession. Is beauty a friend or a foe?
On ChatGPT, Education and Compassion
During a recent training on crisis management our instructor – a dyed-in-the-wool Artificial Intelligence (AI) enthusiast – spent an inordinate amount of time praising ChatGPT. Not wanting to admit I had no idea what he was referring to, I sneakily looked it up on my phone. ChatGPT, or Chat Generative Pre-trained Transformer, is basically a chatbot; a software used for online chat conversations, powered by AI and designed by OpenAI, a research...
Why touch matters
Immigrating to the United Kingdom was a bold move. As a Latina, I had a lot to get used to, from cars driving on “the wrong side of the road” and the constant weather talk to the beautiful, fluffy texture of Yorkshire puddings. But one of the most shocking elements of my new culture was how seldom people hugged each other. During my first year, I visited a friend every week for “emergency hugs” until I had finally adjusted. I fear that I adapted a little too well, though...
Here With Me
I love travelling. A while back, I was on board Airbus A321 bound for Amman, Jordan. I usually choose an aisle seat so that I can get up and walk without disturbing anyone. But the flight was full, so I was assigned a window seat over the left wing of the plane. Although I did not know it, God had planned a surprise for me…
Picturing heaven
What do you imagine heaven will be like? American science-fiction writer Isaac Asimov famously said, “For whatever the tortures of hell, I think the boredom of heaven would be even worse.” Although I love Jesus, I think I am a bit afraid of getting bored there too...
Thankfully, the Bible dispels some of these misconceptions...
In praise of the ordinary
What image comes to mind when you hear the word success? A blue-suited CEO? Internet billionaire Mark Zuckerberg? Perhaps Mother Teresa or Nelson Mandela? But if you’re like me, you probably didn’t think of a person living an unglamorous, day-to-day, ordinary life...
Priorizar O Descanso
